Malaga the birth place of well known artist, Picasso, is one of the cheap but exciting vacation spots. This is made possible by the fine balance between cultural status and a cosmopolitan nightlife. The city is located in the southern coastline of Spain the area referred to as the Costa del Sol region. Like any other vacation spot, Malaga travel on holiday during a recession requires proper planning in order to get the most out of the exercise.

People may classify vacation travel as unnecessary during the recession. However, getting away from the hassles of daily life is important to help you mind relax and work properly. After all, a relaxed mind is the only way you can formulate sound plans to get out of the recession. Therefore vacationing during the recession can be termed as a necessary evil. There are certain things that you should do to make your Malaga vacation trip worthwhile.

Like in any other vacation for American and European tourists travel costs can make your vacation very expensive. To overcome this, you should know how to purchase cheap flights to Malaga. There are several large discount airlines which can offer you low priced flights to Malaga therefore this should not be a problem. If you know such a flight, you can contact them directly for the flight information. However, the most common way that you can use to gain access to such airlines is using a Malaga tours company. These can be easily accessed online.

When looking for such flights for your Malaga vacation, you should realize that there are no direct flights from America to Spain with the discount airlines. The normal procedure involves a layover or connection in the UK and another stop in Spain before you can finally reach Malaga. However, these delays are worth the amount you will save on the Malaga vacation hence beating the recession.

Apart from delays, you should be prepared for the possibility of carrying less baggage since some of the discount airlines cut their costs by reducing the amount of baggage you can carry. If you need to carry extra baggage you may be required to pay additional charges. The other aspect that you should include in your vacation plans is accommodation. All accommodation facilities for Malaga vacations including hotels work in the same way. This means that you should make your reservations as early as possible if you wish to get a discount without compromising on the amenities. This can save you a considerable amount.

Apart from these two there are other areas that you should work on. These do not only apply to your Malaga travel plans but also other vacation trips during the recession. These include paying all or at least most of your debts before embarking on travel. You should also evaluate your financial security to determine whether your current job will last for a few more years. If so you can go ahead with your recession vacation plans.

Finally, even though your budget is very tight when going on a Malaga vacation during the recession, you should never eliminate financial safety nets such as insurance in a bid to include as many Malaga attractions as possible. If something should go wrong while in Malaga, you will find yourself in a hot spot if you ignored the safety net.

Getting to Malaga for your vacation

Get the lowdown for your Malaga Travel plans

If you plan to fly into Malaga, really the best  way to get there is by taking a direct flight – if available from your city of course.
This is probably the most expensive medium to reach Malaga but it is definitely hassle free. If you are on a budget however, you could fly into one of the many European cities like London, Berlin, Dublin, Paris or even Madrid – from there you can take a cheaper budget flight to Malaga Airport - www.aena.es.
Malaga Airport

Malaga Airport

The Malaga Airport is about 5 miles from the center of Malaga and this is the primary airport for entire Costa Del Sol area.
Once you have arrived in Malaga, there are several ways to get from the Malaga Airport to your hotel: either by bus or train, a taxi or even a rental car.
If you wish to travel by bus, the best place to start is here – http://www.andalucia.com/travel/airports/malagabus.htm
If you prefer the train, then you can get all the information here –  http://www.andalucia.com/travel/airports/malagatrain.htm
If you would like to take one of the plentiful Taxis in the city, you will have a comfortable ride and the price is not too expensive. Short trips through the city of Malaga usually average around 5 Euros ($8US) and the cost of a taxi ride to the airport will set you back by anywhere between 12 Euro and 15 Euro ($19 -$23).

El sol

The color of Malaga taxis is usually white and they are easy to spot. Just keep in mind that it may be difficult get a cab during the four rush hours of the city — usually between 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m, then the 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. timeframe and then 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Some of the Malaga Taxi companies are:
Municipal Taxi – 34 952 333 333
Taxi Union – 34 952 040 804
Unitaxi – 34 952 122 040
You can take also take a long distance train to Malaga from Sevilla, although you have to change trains in Bobadilla – there are a lot of trains split in half and they go in different directions from there.  So if you are going to Malaga, you have to make sure that your half of the train is not on it’s way to Granada, and vice versa (but if you do end up in Granada – don’t worry, it’s a nice place too :) )
High speed trains at Malaga
Finally – by Car – getting around by car is probably the least friendly way to get around the city especially if you are on you Malaga vacation. Parking for your car can be a hassle and dealing with traffic will be stressful especially during the four rush hours (the morning and evening commute of between 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. are probably the busiest).
Also, rental cars are a frequent target for petty thieves. Even if a can of Soda or a paper bag is left on the seat, it can attract unwanted attention. But if you still want to rent a car during your Malaga vacation, you will be pleased to know that almost all the big rental car companies are located at Malaga Airport.  You can get more information at Avis ( www.avis.es) and Hertz ( www.hertz.es) which are two of the most popular options.
