La Alcazaba is a military fortress in Malaga built during the rule of King Badis. It is the most prominent building in Malaga built on a hillside overlooking the African coast. It provides a good view of the Malaga town which originally consisted 3 protecting walls in the past but only one wall is remaining at present. It includes 100 towers and 3 palaces with the entrance designed for defensive purpose.

The entrance is through a gateway called “Puerta de la Bóveda” (Vault Gate), but at present it can also be accessed by an elevator. The entrance gate doubles back on itself so that attackers find it difficult to proceed. “Puerta de los Cuartos de Granada” (Gate of the Granada Quarters) is the passage for the inner enclosure which defenses the western side of the palace. “Torre del Homenaje” (Tribute Tower) lies on the eastern side. Inside the second wall is seen the “Cuartos de Granada” (Granada Quarters), the home of governors. It also houses the archeological museum.
